Vietnamese karate artists to compete in Paris tournament

Hanoi (VNA) - Nguyen Thi Ngoan andNguyen Thi Phuong will represent Vietnam in Karate 1-Premier League Paris2018, to be held in Paris from January 26-28.

Ngoan, who won a gold medal at the Karate1-Premier League’s Leipzig leg and a bronze at the Dubai leg in 2017,will compete in the women’s 61kg kumite (combat) category, while SoutheastAsian Games winner Phuong will take part in the women’s individual kata(performance) class.

Both of them are seeking points to qualify for theTokyo Olympics in 2020.

“Each tournament will be a practice opportunity sothat our athletes can sharpen their skills and gain experience to improve theirlevel,” said Vu Son Ha, head of the Karate Department.

After the Paris event, there will be K1competitions in Dubai in February, followed by Rotterdam in March, Rabat inApril, Istanbul in June, Berlin in September and Tokyo in October.

Ngoan and her teammate can also collect pointsfrom the Asian Games in Indonesia in August and the world championships inSpain in November.-VNA
