Vietnamese, Lao capital cities eye stronger cooperation

Hanoi (VNA) – Chairman of the Hanoi People’sCommittee Tran Sy Thanh and Mayor of Vientiane (Laos) Atsaphangthong Siphandone discussed measures to forge cooperation between the two capital citiesin the time ahead at their talks in Hanoi on October 4.
Thanh described the relationship between the capitalcities as a bright spot contributing to the Vietnam-Laos relations, stressing thecooperation agreement between the Hanoi Party Organisation and administration andtheir Vientiane counterparts for the 2022-2025 has created a framework and momentumfor cooperation between the two cities to grow further in the time ahead.
He suggested the two sides enhance collaboration indigital transformation, e-administration, cyberspace management and cybercrimecombat.
The official briefed his guest on Vietnam’ssocio-economic situation, as well as remarkable achievements Hanoi made in thefirst nine months of this year, and noted his hope that he and the VientianeMayor will reach consensus on coordination formats at different levels in orderto raise capacity in some new technology areas.
For his part, Athsaphangthongsuggested promoting cooperation activities to build a democratic politicalsystem at the district level, and expressed his hope for closer, and moreintensive, extensive and practical cooperation between Hanoi and Vientiane./.
"Homestay programme", which has provided Lao students with real experiences by staying with local families in the northern province of Thai Nguyen, has helped them well integrate into the host society, improving their Vietnamese language skills and supporting them during their study, heard a conference on September 29 to summary the programme in the 2022-2023 academic year.

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
