Vietnamese, Lao localities work to build peaceful borderline
A conference took place in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on July 24 to review its cooperation programme with Laos’ Salavan province in building a borderline of peace and friendship during the 2012-2018 period.

Thua Thien – Hue (VNA) – A conference took place inthe central province of Thua Thien-Hue on July 24 to review its cooperationprogramme with Laos’ Salavan province in building a borderline of peace andfriendship during the 2012-2018 period.
The programme was carried out by the provincial chapter ofthe Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Lao Front for National Construction’schapter in Salavan.
As heard at the conference, in order to develop border relationswith Salavan over the past six years, Thua Thien-Hue sent several delegationsto the Lao province for exchanges and meetings, and organised communicationprogrammes to raise awareness of the local A Luoi mountain district and Salavanresidents on building a borderline of peace and friendship.
The two provinces were said to maintain decent relationsbetween their twin villages and border forces. Thanks to support from Salavanauthorities, in 2017, the search team under the Thua Thien-Hue Military HighCommand was able to find the remains of 13 Vietnamese martyrs in Laos.
The sides have worked closely in the fields of healthcare,culture, sports, tourism, defence and security, as well as in searching forVietnamese martyrs’ remains in Laos.
Thua Thien-Hue has offered 10 scholarships each year forstudents from Salavan.
Speaking at the function, Standing Vice Secretary of theThua Thien-Hue Party Committee Bui Thanh Ha suggested both localities buildplans for communications campaigns on border friendship, as well as Vietnam-Laoscomprehensive cooperation. The campaigns should access people from all walks oflife, particularly those living along the border zones, the official said.
Ha recommended the sides continue completing their grassroots-levelpolitical systems in border areas, exchanging information and experience, andcarrying out front cooperation.

The central province of Thua Thien-Hue on December 22 held a ceremony to honour winners of a writing contest on history of Vietnam-Laos special relations.
More than 500 Lao students, who are studying in Vietnam’s central province of Thua Thien – Hue, were brought together on April 8 to celebrate Laos’ traditional New Year festival of Bunpimay.

The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
