Vietnamese, Lao officials hold annual talks on border security

Vientiane (VNA) ꧃– Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai, Commander of the Vietnam BorderGuard force, held annual talks with Director General of the Lao Border MilitaryDepartment Major General Siphan Phoutthavong in Luang Prabang on October 24.
Both sides agreed to continue on with the border guard cooperation agreement between the Vietnam BorderGuard High Command and the Lao Border Military Department signed on October 16,2018, as well as the legal border documents signed between Vietnam and Laos. They will work together to enhance border management and protection, conductmutual patrols to detect activities that aim at damaging national border markers, and monitor criminal activities. The two sides vowed to jointly fight smuggling, trade fraud, drug trafficking, illegal weapons and explosivematerial transactions, human trafficking, cyber fraud, cross-border gambling,and terrorist attacks.
Additionally, they will coordinate to deal with issues related to sabotage attempts, illegal immigration,unauthorised residence, and illegal labour.
🎀 The two sidespledged to maintain regular or ad-hoc exchanges of information related toborder management and protection, as well as incidents occurringalong the border.
They will work together to raise public awareness of tactics used by hostile and reactionary forces,and law compliance among residents and adherence tolegal border documents and relevant agreements signed by both sides./.
Representatives from the veterans associations of the northwestern province of Son La and Laos' Xayabury province agreed to enhance cooperation in exchanging information, documents, war memorabilia and remains of Vietnamese martyrs and experts who laid down their lives in Laos during their talks on October 13.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum and the Department of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos’s Attapeu province on October 17 signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in preventing violations in the forestry sector for 2024-2025.

The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
