Vietnamese magician wins international award

Vietnamese magician Huy Nguyen has been honoured with the Merlin Award, which is presented to magicians who have achieved the highest level in their craft on the national and international stage.

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese magician HuyNguyen has been honoured with the Merlin Award, which is presented to magicianswho have achieved the highest level in their craft on the national andinternational stage.

The Merlin Award is to magic what the Oscar isto the movies or the Grammy is to the music industry. Several famous magiciansworldwide have won the award, including David Copperfield (the United States),Lu Luchen (China) and Cosentino (Australia).

Other Vietnamese magicians who have received theaward are Palmas Nguyen and Ngoc Minh Quang.

“Receiving this honour does not mean we are thebest. It means we have to try harder and make greater efforts,” Huy said at theceremony. “I hope more Vietnamese magicians will join hands to developVietnam’s magic.

Born in the central province of Khanh Hoa, Huybegan pursuing his passion for performing magic tricks in 1994, but took upmagic as a profession in 2012 after qualifying for the semi-final of Vietnam’sGot Talent.

He is currently a member of the InternationalBrotherhood of Magicians and the International Magicians Society. He is alsovice manager of the magic club at the Youth Cultural House in HCM City.

Many of his shows, such as Nguoi Bay (FlyingPerson) or Danh Trong Ao (Virtual Drum), have been performed on stagesnationwide, receiving high appreciation from the audience. He has impressed theaudience with his humourous, skilful and unique tricks.

Huy has said he plans to conduct more magicshows at public places within HCM City, such as parks, book streets or NguyenHue pedestrian street, to entertain more people. - VNA
