Vietnamese martial artist wins gold in Istanbul karate league

Nguyen Hoang Ngan, the Vietnamese queen of kata (performance), has won a gold medal at the Karate1 Premier League in Istanbul, Turkey.

Theformer world champion regained her status by defeating TerryanaD'Onofrio of Italy in the individual female seniors' final match of theWorld Karate Federation-sponsored tournament.

She had to overcomethe challenge of five other athletes to enter the finals and notch hersecond win in the league. The first came during her stint at the KaratePremier League in Germany in 2012.

With Ngan's recent victory,Vietnam placed seventh overall in the tournament, which the hosts toppedwith four gold medals and a silver medal.-VNA
