Vietnamese striker tops best goal poll for Asian Cup’s Round of 16

Hanoi, January 26 (VNA) – The goal scored by Vietnamesestriker Nguyen Cong Phuong at the 51st minute in the Vietnam –Jordan match has been selected as the best goal of the AFC Asian Cup 2019’sround of 16.

As announced by the tourney’s organiser on January 26, in a four-daypoll, Phuong’s goal received 217,698 votes or 74 percent of the total votes, alandslide win compared to five other candidates.

Phuong’s goal, which he scored off his teammate Nguyen TrongHoang’s splendid cross from the right wing, helped Vietnam equalised withJordan in the game, and later emerged “victorious” from a penalty shoot-out, thusbecoming the first team to reach the tourney’s quarter-finals.

The goal by Mirlan Murzaev (Kyrgyzstan) into the host UAE’snet, came second in the survey with 59,519 votes or 20 percent of the total.

In the third place was Baha Abdelrahman (Jordan)’s goal inthe match against Vietnam, which obtained 13,029 votes or 4 percent of thetotal.

Earlier, Vietnamese midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai surpassed nineother candidates to win the highest votes of 465,629 (45 percent) for the bestgoal of the Asian Cup 2019’s group stage.-VNA
