Vietnamese swimmer breaks SEA Games record

Nguyen Thi Anh Vien shone at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Age Groups Swimming Championship which wrapped up in Brunei last week, taking home 11 gold and two silver medals and establishing a new SEA Games record in the women’s 200m backstroke.

Recently returned from a short training course in the US , the 17-year-old swimmer swam in 13 events of the 16-18 age group.

Shebroke seven championship records including 200m freestyle with resultsof 2:03.52, 200m backstroke within 2:14.95, 400m mixed at 4:52.83, 400mfreestyle at 4:16.46, 100m backstroke of 1:03.3, 200m mixed at 2: 17.90,and 50m freestyle within 27.02.

Especially, Vien setnew SEA Games record in the women’s 200m backstroke event when clockingat 2:14.95, breaking Indonesian Yessy Yosaputra’s 2011 SEA Games recordof 2:15.73.

Thanks to her impressive performance, the Vietnamteam finished fourth in the medals table, behind Singapore ,Thailand and Malaysia.

Vien will next take part in thefourth Asian indoor & Martial Arts Games in Inchoen, the Republic ofKorea, from June 29 to July 6.

The Southeast Asian(SEA) Age Groups Swimming Championship, from June 7-9, saw theparticipation of 230 athletes from Vietnam, Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia,Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines, competing in the under-13,14-15 and 16-18 age groups.-VNA

⛄ Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee
