Vietnamese to referee int'l football cup in Portugal

FIFA has invited Vietnamese female referee Truong Thi Le Trinh to manage an international women’s football tournament, AG Cup 2018, to be held in Portugal from February 24 to March 7.

Hanoi (VNA) — FIFA has invited Vietnamese female referee TruongThi Le Trinh to manage an international women’s football tournament, AG Cup2018, to be held in Portugal from February 24 to March 7.

Trinh, 33, was awarded the Women’s Assistant Referee of the Year in2017 by the ASEAN Football Federation.

She is the only women’s assistant referee in ASEAN to receivecertification with FIFA standards to reach the Elite 2018 level,allowing her to officiate at the final round of FIFA Women’s World Cup inFrance in 2019.

Trinh, who was born in the southern province of Long An, practiced duringthe Tet Lunar New Year to prepare for the AG Cup.

She said that her physical strength and skills would be tested when acting asreferee in Portugal. If she passes, she will begin her duties.

Trinh was awarded FIFA-level referee certification in 2012 and became an AFCelite referee one year later. She was assistant referee at the FIFA U17 Women’sWorld Cup in Jordan in 2016.-VNA
