Vietnam’s cuisine, fine art shines in South Africa

Pretoria (VNA) – The Embassy ofVietnam in South Africa hosted a booth, featuring Vietnamese cuisine and fineart at a trade fair in Pretoria, South Africa on November 13.

The event welcomed nearly 100 guests from embassiesand agencies of Southeast Asian nations in South Africa, representatives fromthe South African Department of Arts and Culture, and Vietnamese overseasagencies.

Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador toSouth Africa Vu Van Dung thanked the organisers of the ASEAN – Africa TradeFair, the first of its kind, saying that the event presents an opportunity for Vietnameseartist Nguyen Minh Son to introduce Vietnam’s culture and contemporary fineart.

Son’s presentation enabled visitors to get aninsight into the landscape and people of Vietnam, including theUNESCO-recognised natural wonder of Ha Long Bay, Nha Trang beach, Hanoi’s oldquarter and Hoi An ancient city, among others.

The work arts displayed at the event were previouslyshowcased at exhibitions in London, Singapore, the US, Hong Kong (China) and theRepublic of Korea.

A number of the works were presented to theEmbassy of Vietnam in South Africa. Participants also ate Vietnamese food duringthe event.-VNA

♌ Vietnamese culture takes centre stage in Korean city

The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.

💦 Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.
