Vietnam’s First Lady, Belgium’s Queen visit President Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site

Hanoi (VNA) – Madam Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, spouse of State President Luong Cuong, and Queen Mathilde of Belgium went on a tour of the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site within the Presidential Palace grounds in Hanoi on April 1 as part of the ongoing state visit to Vietnam by the Belgian royal couple.
The distinguished visitors were guided through the various buildings within the complex.
At Uncle Ho’s stilt house, the two ladies visited each room with artifacts connected to the late Vietnamese leader’s life. The stilt house served as President Ho Chi Minh’s summer residence and workplace as well as a venue for meetings with Politburo leaders, ministry and local officials, along with soldiers.
Queen Mathilde wrote on the site’s guestbook and joined First Lady Nguyet in feeding fish in Uncle Ho’s pond.
On the occasion, Madam Nguyet presented Queen Mathilde a painting of Uncle Ho’s stilt house.

Spanning over 10 hectares, the complex features houses, courtyards, gardens, lawns, a fish pond, and walkways. The highlights of the site are House 54, Uncle Ho’s stilt house, and House 67.
President Ho Chi Minh lived and worked in the stilt house for around 11 years before he passed away in September 1969. Today, nearly 250 of his documents and the entire architecture and grounds of the house are preserved exactly as they were during the final days of his life.

President Cuong warmly welcomed King Philippe and a high-ranking delegation of the Kingdom of Belgium on their first state visit to Vietnam since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1973, affirming that the trip is an important historical milestone, opening up a new page for the friendly relations between the two countries.
The first state visit in over 50 years between the two countries serves as an important milestone for bilateral ties to enter a new development stage with stronger political trust and more substantive and effective cooperation.
Both sides agreed to translate the outcomes of the Belgian King’s state visit into concrete actions and facilitate mutual visits at both central and local levels.
Describing the exhibition as a large-scaled, content-rich, and unprecedented event with high requirements and limited preparation time, PM Pham Minh Chinh urged all ministries, sectors, and localities to participate with the highest sense of responsibility, ensuring the exhibition is inclusive, objective, truthful, feasible, and impactful.
Vietnam’s attendance reaffirms its consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification, and comprehensive, intensive, extensive and effective international integration.
Cheng stressed that this is third time PM Chinh has attended the meeting and he is among the few senior government officials participating in this year's event, which is considered as a rare and commendable gesture.
The fact that the Vietnamese PM has been invited to attend and speak at this important event for three consecutive years reflects the WEF as well as the international business community's recognition and high regard for Vietnam's position, role, and contributions to global and regional economic growth.
