Hanoi, August 9 (VNA) -The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) held a ceremony in Hanoi on August 9 tointroduce Giustozzi Diego Raul as the new head coach of the Vietnamese national futsal team,who is expected to lift the squad to new heights, starting with the 2022 AFCFutsal Asian Cup and then at the 2024 World Cup final.
Raul, of Argentinenationality and born in 1978, led his native country to win the 2016 FutsalWorld Cup in Colombia.
He is contracted tolead the Vietnamese team from August 1, 2022 to September 30, 2024.

In recent years,Vietnamese futsal has made strong developments, participating in the FIFAFutsal World Cup in Colombia in 2016. The national team appeared at the WorldCup again in 2021 under the guidance of coach Phạm Minh Giang. At bothtournaments, Vietnam reached the round of 16.
According to Tran AnhTu, head of the futsal section of the VFF, to raise the level of the nationalteam towards the goals set out, Vietnam needs the support of the world's leadingfutsal experts. That is also the reason why the VFF decided to invite coachRaul.
To improve the qualityof Vietnamese futsal, in addition to gradually professionalising domesticfutsal clubs through participation in the AFC tournament system, the nationalfutsal tournament will also strive to be organized in the home and away fieldformat, instead of at a centralized location.
The Vietnamese teamare currently training at Thai Son Nam Gymnasium in HCM City until September 8.
Afterwards, the teamwill compete in an invitational tournament from September 9-17 in Thailand.Vietnam will have the opportunity to face quality rivals such as Iran, Morocco,Finland, Angola and host Thailand.
On September 24,Vietnam will go to Kuwait where they will compete in the AFC Futsal Cup, wherethey will face the Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia and the last time'srunners-up Japan./.
The Vietnamese national futsal team have been drawn to Group D which also comprises Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), and Saudi Arabia at the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2022 finals.
Vietnam will send 53 athletes to compete at the 20th ASEAN University Games (AUG), which will be held in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, from July 26 to August 6.

The Vietnamese team will gather on June 26 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, where they will train until July 14 before departing for Indonesia for the ASEAN U23 Championship 2025, which runs from July 15 to 29. Vietnam will face Laos on July 19 and Cambodia on July 22 in the group stage.

The U23 competition will run from June 16 to 22, followed by the U17 event from June 23 to 28, while athletes competing in the U23 category will undergo weight and skill checks ahead of the matches starting June 18, while similar checks for U17 athletes will take place before June 23.
Vietnam continues to sit just behind continental powerhouses Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, China, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
