Hanoi (VNA) – The RedSpring Festival, the largest blood donation event in Vietnam that turns 15 thisyear, kicked off in Hanoi on February 12.
Director of the National Institute of Hematologyand Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) Bach Quoc Khanh, head of the festival organising board,said the event, held annually after the Lunar New Year holiday, aims to helpensure sufficient blood supply for medical use which, inthe past, often faced a serious shortage after the country’s biggest and longestholiday.
First held in the spring of 2008, thefestival has attracted hundreds of thousands of participants and receivednearly 92,000 units so far. Most of localities nationwide and many agencies,businesses, and organisations have also organised annual blood donationactivities on this occasion.
This year’s festival in Hanoi willlast for nine days, until February 20, expected to attract 10,000 donors andreceive about 7,000 blood units.
People can donate at the NIHBTheadquarters on Pham Van Bach street of Cau Giay district, the three fixedblood donation locations (No. 26 on Luong Ngoc Quyen street, No. 132 on QuanNhan street, and No. 10 of Alley 122 on Lang street), as well as the culturalcentre of Gia Lam district.
They can register to make donation via or the app “Hien mau”.
At the festival opening ceremony, Meta- the company running Facebook - and the NIHBT debuted the Blood Donationsfeature on this social network in Vietnam. This feature will become operationalon February 16, enabling donors to easily connect with blood reception facilities./.
The Department of External Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City in collaboration with the municipal Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Thai Consulate General in the city on December 4 organised a blood donation event on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Thailand-Vietnam diplomatic relations (1976-2021). It was also an activity in tribute to the late Thai King Bhumibol Adulayadej.
Organisers expect to collect 45,000 - 50,000 blood units on Chu Nhat Do 2022 (Red Sunday), a blood donation campaign that will officially open at the People’s Police Academy in Hanoi on January 16.
