Hanoi (VNA) - Young Vietnamese chess players won 20 gold medals at theEastern Asian Youth Chess Championships which concluded in Ulaanbaatar,Mongolia on June 25.

Pham Tran Gia Phuc, who won gold in the rapid chess event of the U8 category atthe world championships in Belarus early this month, won gold medals in blitz,standard and rapid chess.

Six players won in standard events namely Nguyen Nghia Gia Binh (boys’ U6), BuiHuy Phuoc (boys’ U10), Tran Dang Minh Quang (boys’ U12), Vu Bui Thi Thanh Van(girls’ U12), Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong (girls’ U14) and Tran Thi Diem Quynh (girls’U16).

Nguyen Anh Khoi (boys’ U16) and Tran Minh Thang (boys’ U18) finished third inthe standard event but bagged gold medals in the rapid and blitz events.

The championship featured 584 players from 12 countries and territories,including China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia and the UK. Playersbetween six and 18 years of age competed in three categories: blitz, standardand rapid chess.-VNA
