VUFO President meets with Philippine Foreign Minister

Hanoi (VNA) – President of the Vietnam Union ofFriendship Organisations (VUFO) Nguyen Phuong Nga met with Philippine ForeignMinister Teodoro Lopez Locsin in Hanoi on July 8, stressing people-to-peoplediplomacy’s contribution to the countries’ ties.
The VUFO President congratulated the Philippineson its achievements in national development and poverty reduction in recentyears.
She thanked the Philippine Government for supporting Vietnam’s candidacy fornon-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council for 2020-2021.
She also thanked the country for facilitatingthe establishment of the Philippines-Vietnam Friendship Association, affirmingthat people-to-people diplomacy plays a crucial role in enhancing the twocountries’ friendship.
On this occasion, Nga also introducedoutstanding activities of the Vietnam-Philippines and Philippines-Vietnamfriendship associations in fostering the friendship, cooperation andpeople-to-people exchange between the nations.
The two organisations signed a memorandum ofunderstanding on cooperation in June this year during a visit to thearchipelago nation by leaders of the Vietnam-Philippines FriendshipAssociation.
For his part, Minister Locsin, who is paying anofficial visit to Vietnam from July 8 to 9, highlighted that Vietnam and thePhilippines have a close-knit friendship and share many cultural similarities.Meanwhile, many businesses of the two countries have formed strongpartnerships, helping to promote bilateral trade.
He affirmed that the Philippine Government willcontinue creating favourable conditions for people-to-people exchanges betweenthe two countries.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed thebilateral friendship and people-to-people cooperation, along with issues ofcommon concern like climate change, environmental protection and population.
They expressed their delight at the countries’common attainments, including the cooperation and mutual support between thetwo peoples. -VNA
The Philippines Airlines (PAL) direct route linking Hanoi and Manila, scheduled to be launched on April 1, will help enhance ties between Vietnam and the Philippines.

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
