WB lends 92 million USD to wastewater treatment project

Binh Duong (VNA)💞 – The southern province of Binh Duong and the World Bank concluded negotiations on a 92 million USD loan for the urban wastewater collection and treatment project in Di An town on April 29.
The project with a total investment of 115 million USD will help control water resource pollution and end the illegal discharge of wastewater, while increasing the efficient use of water resources and ensuring safe water resources in the Dong Nai River basin.
The project’s main component is a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 20,000 cu.m per day. The plant will collect and treat wastewater for an area of 1,600 hectares.
The Binh Duong Environment and Water Supply Company is assigned to implement the project.
This is the third project of the kind in the southern province. The other two are in Thu Dau Mot city and Thuan An town, using official development assistance capital from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The project in Thu Dau Mot city has been put into operation with a capacity of 17,000 cu.m per day, serving nearly 400,000 local residents.-VNA
The Prime Minister has approved a “Sewage and Wastewater Treatment in Di An town area” project to be implemented in the southern province of Binh Duong.
The World Bank (WB) has confirmed a package of 239 million USD from the bank’s IDA and 46 million USD from (IBRD) to implement the second phase of the Coastal Cities Environmental Sanitation Project.
Mariam Sherman, World Bank Country Director for Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, said the World Bank remains committed to working with the Vietnamese government to develop the next phase of climate resilience and transformation for the Mekong Delta.
Under the directive, the PM instructed relevant agencies to regularly inspect, supervise and proactively implement disaster prevention, response and rescue measures in line with their assigned roles and mandates, ensuring readiness, avoiding passivity or delays, and maintaining operational continuity amid ongoing political and administrative restructuring at levels.

The Deposit Return System is seen as a potential instrument for effectively advancing Vietnam’s vision of a circular economy, as outlined in Article 142 of the 2020 Law on Environmental Protection.
