Weightlifters turn up trumps at Asian weightlifting championship

Vietnamese weightlifters lived up to expectations, bringing home two gold, three silver and one bronze medal at the ongoing 2015 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Phuket, Thailand.

Vietnamese weightlifters lived up to expectations, bringing home two gold, three silver and one bronze medal at the ongoing 2015 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Phuket, Thailand, from September 3-12.

Two gold and one silver medal were won by female weightlifter Vuong Thi Huyen in the women’s 40-kilo weight category.

Huyen won the snatch with 86 kilograms and came in second in the clean and jerk at 104 kilograms to take the gold medal with a total weight of 190 kilograms.

This is the best result the young Hanoian weightlifter has achieved to date.

The other gold medal in the category belonged to Huang Yuezhen of China with her best lift of 105 kilograms in the clean and jerk.

Two silvers were earned by male lifter Tran Le Quoc Toan in the men’s 56-kilo event.

Toan cleaned and jerked 152 kilograms to finish second in the category. He was third in the snatch category with the best lift of 120 kilograms.

He also took silver with a total weight of 272 kilograms.

𝓰 Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan, another Vietnamese weightlifter at the competition, finished fourth with a total weight of 261 kilograms.-VNA
