Hanoi (VNA) – General Secretary of the LaoPeople’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and President of Laos ThonglounSisoulith, his spouse and a Lao Party and State high-level delegation werewelcomed to Vietnam at an official ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Hanoion June 28 morning chaired by State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his spouse.
Also present at the event were permanent member of theParty Central Committee’s Secretariat Vo Van Thuong, head of the Party CentralCommittee’s Commission for Organisation Truong Thi Mai, Vice Chairman of theNational Assembly Tran Thanh Man, Minister of National Defence Phan Van Giang,and Minister of Public Security To Lam, among others.

It is first overseas trip by Thongloun Sisoulith in hiscapacity as Lao Party General Secretary and President for the 2021 – 2026 term.
The visit aims to implement consistent foreign policyLaos and Vietnam in reserving and promoting the great friendship, specialsolidarity and comprehensive cooperation of the two countries.
It also provides an opportunity for the two countries tofurther exchange experience in development and accelerate the effective implementationof bilateral agreements in 2021 and beyond.

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
