Wild animals returned to nature in Quang Binh

A number of rare animals have been reintroduced into the wild in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, the central province of Quang Binh.

Hanoi (VNA) – Anumber of rare animals have been reintroduced into the wild in Phong Nha - KeBang National Park, the central province of Quang Binh.

They consist of five Asianpalm civets, two Rhesus monkeys, two pig-tailedmacaques, two stump-tailed macaques, one masked palm civet, four keeled boxturtles, one elongated tortoise, one giant Asian pond turtle, and three Asianwater dragons, the park’s management board said on June 23.

Rescued from poaching orhanded over by local residents, they were released after a period of time undercare.

Accordingto Deputy Director of the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Agency Nguyen Xuan Dung,Vietnam has developed and enforced a number of programmes and action plans onthe urgent conservation of endangered species such as tigers, elephants,primates, and turtles.

Projects monitoring wildlife populations havebeen carried out in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh province, CatBa National Park in Hai Phong city, Van Long Nature Reserve in Ninh Binhprovince, Na Hang and Cham Chu Nature Reserves in Tuyen Quang province, and XuanThuy National Park in Nam Dinh province, among others.

Other projects building biodiversity corridorsin the central provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien-Hue have also contributedto maintaining and protecting the habitats of endangered species such as thebuffed-cheeked gibbon, Edwards’s pheasant, red-shanked douc, Annamite stripedrabbit, and Annamite muntjac.

Vietnam is now home to 173 wildlifeconservation zones, comprising 33 national parks, 66 nature reserves, 18species and biotope reserves, and 56 landscape protection zones./.

Vietnam pioneers use of A🗹I and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

Wutip storm ravages central Vietnam, leaving trail ofꦯ destruction

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, trea💧tment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
