Winners of contest ‘Reporting on violence against women, girls’ announced

The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on January 17 announced winners of a joint contest ‘Reporting on violence against women and girls’ for media workers nationwide.

Hanoi (VNA) - The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and the UN Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on January 17 announced winnersof a joint contest ‘Reporting on violence against women and girls’ for mediaworkers nationwide.

The contest, launched in early December 2021,attracted a large number of journalists and media professionals all over thecountry. In their works, journalists expressed their opinions and suggestedmedia solutions to reduce gender inequality and gender-based violence, reportedthe VOV.

The contest also provided journalists, mediaprofessionals and students around the world with a useful resource through theHandbook “Reporting on Gender-Based Violence against Women and Girls”, whichoffers general recommendations for ethical journalistic practice in reportingon gender-based violence.

Lucila Carrassco, Representative from UNESCOHanoi Office, highly appreciated the participation of the journalists as wellas the quality of the entries, noting this evidence shows gender equality ingeneral and gender-based violence in particular is a major social issue thatrequires the participation of media agencies.

Organisers presented a first prize worth 9 million VND to reporter Ma Thi ThaoVan from Labour and Social Affairs newspaper, a second prize worth 7 million VNDto reporter Bui Thuy Loan from Vietnam Law newspaper, and a third prize toreporter Nong Thi Thuy Hang from Cao Bang Province newspaper./.
