Winners of press awards on natural resources, environment announced

Winners of the fourth Press Awards on Natural Resources and Environment were announced at a ceremony held in Hanoi on August 28 by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE).

Hanoi (VNA) – Winners of thefourth Press Awards on Natural Resources and Environment were announced at aceremony held in Hanoi on August 28 by the Ministry of Natural Resources andEnvironment (MoNRE).

At the ceremony, the organising board presented prizes to 29 authors and groupsof authors, including five A prizes, six B prizes, and 18 C prizes for the mostoutstanding works in the categories of printed media, television, radio, andonline media.

Addressing the event, MoNRE Minister Tran Hong Ha highly valued the winning works,while stressing the press awards continued affirming the position and role ofthe environment and natural resources sector in the country’s industrialisation,modernisation and sustainable development.

This year’s awards drew an enthusiastic response, with 505 submissions from 128authors and groups of authors from 78 press agencies nationwide sent to theorganising committee. State management on land and environmental protectionwere among the topics that received the most coverage by journalists.

The Press Awards on Natural Resources andEnvironment has been held since 2010.

The fourth edition of the awards focused onthe major topics of detecting and reflecting shortcomings in the promulgationand implementation of policies and laws, negative acts, hot spots andviolations of the legislation on natural resources and environment;strengthening administrative reforms on natural resources and the environment;and transforming the development model and proposing measures to stabilisepeople’s livelihoods in response to climate change.-VNA

🎀 Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public.
