Work begins on Vietnam-Japan University construction

A ground-breaking ceremony was held on December 20 for the Vietnam-Japan University at the Vietnam National University – Hanoi site in Hoa Lac High-Tech Park to the west of Hanoi.

StatePresident Truong Tan Sang, Special Advisor to the Japan-VietnamFriendship Parliamentary Alliance Takebe Tsutomu, and JapaneseAmbassador to Vietnam Fukada Hiroshi attended the ceremony, amongothers. The Vietnam-Japan university, whoseinception comes from ideas and desires of high-ranking leaders ofVietnam and Japan, will offer courses in Japanese, English andVietnamese, targeting to run a model that features the close connectionbetween training and research, businesses and university, andpublic-private ties.
It will see support and direct participation of Japanese scientists, experts, businesspeople in Vietnam. The university is estimated to cost 365 million USD, including 200million USD from the Japanese government’s official developmentassistance (ODA), 100 million USD to be financed by Japanese enterprisesand organisations, and 65 million USD contributed by the Vietnameseside.
It plans to start enrolling students formaster degree programmes in 2016 even its construction is expected to befully completed by 2020. Addressing the ceremony,Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said the university is the symbol ofthe friendship between Vietnam and Japan. He heldout hope that Hanoi authorities and other Vietnamese and Japaneseagencies concerned will work together closely to ensure the projectprogresses as schedule with secured quality.-VNA
