Construction on an air traffic control tower began at Cat Bi international airport in northern Hai Phong city on December 11.
Construction on an air traffic control tower began at Cat Bi international airport in northern Hai Phong city on December 11. Oncecompleted in the fourth quarter of 2015, the tower is expected toprovide round-the-clock air control services for all arriving anddeparting flights. Built at an investment ofnearly 80 billion USD (3.76 million USD), the project comprises a 42.9mtower, a two-storey building and auxiliary facilities.
Cat Bi international airport serves 20 flights a day with the numberof passengers rising by 38.16 percent annually over the past 5 years.
According to the airport’s development plan, by2025 it will be capable of handling 7-8 million passengers and100,000-250,000 tonnes of goods a year.
HoangThanh, Chairman of the Members’ Council of the Vietnam Air TrafficManagement Corporation, said that the project is part of a plan aimingto modernise the corporation’s facilities.-VNA
