World Bank seek partnership with Vietnam in energy development

Hanoi (VNA) - Minister of Industry and TradeNguyen Hong Dien held a working session with World Bank (WB) Regional VicePresident for East Asia and Pacific Manuela V. Ferro in Hanoi on November 14.
Appreciating the WB's support for the development ofVietnam's electricity and energy sector, Dien said the Vietnamese Governmentencourages all economic sectors to invest in the electricity sector based on theprinciples of healthy competition and of ensuring the investors’ interests.
For Vietnam to successfully implement a just energy transition, there is a need for maximum support from international partners in technology transfer, management, workforce training, and financial provision, the minister noted.
He proposed that the WB continue to coordinate with theMinistry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity, and provinces and citiesto implement a rural, mountainous, and island electrification project, which aimsto achieve a goal of providing stable, high-quality electricity at affordableprices for all households.
In response, Ferro said the WB wants to accompany theSoutheast Asian nation in implementing its 8th National PowerDevelopment Plan, adding that the bank will continue to provide financial support for Vietnam's energy transitionprojects, especially regarding renewable energy.
Both host and guest agreed to continue their coordinationand review of regulations and procedures to ensure the effectiveness of thesides’ joint projects./.
Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh has hailed the World Bank (WB)’s effective cooperation with Vietnam, especially in climate change response, green growth and environmental protection.
The World Bank Board of Directors on July 31 approved a project worth 129.6 million USD to strengthen flood resilience and improve sanitation, transport, and public space infrastructure in Nghe An province's Vinh city - a political, economic, and cultural centre of the north-central coastal region.

The ministry has instructed Vietnamese representative agencies in Israel, Iran, as well as those in neighbouring countries, to closely monitor the situation and request local authorities to ensure absolute safety for Vietnamese citizens living, studying, and working in high-risk areas.
