13th ASEAN Schools Games starts basketball competition

The competition of the 13th ASEAN School Games (ASG) started on May 31 with the first match between the women’s basketball teams of Thailand and Malaysia at the Da Nang University Sports Centre in the central city of Da Nang.

Da Nang (VNA)ꦫ – The competition of the 13th ASEAN School Games (ASG) started on May 31 with the first match between the women’s basketball teams of Thailand and Malaysia at the Da Nang University Sports Centre in the central city of Da Nang.

The two teams had an impressive and fierce match, bringing the audiences with beautiful moves. Finishing the match, the Thai squad beat Malaysia with a score of 65 - 60. At the 13th ASG, in the men's category, eight teams are divided into two groups. Group A includes the Philippines, Thailand, Laos, and Indonesia while Group B has Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Brunei.
In the women's category, there are six teams who are divided into two groups. Group C has the Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand while Group D sees Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam. The teams are competing from May 31 to June 7. The Vietnamese women's basketball team will play their first match on June 1 against Indonesia while the Vietnamese men's basketball team will play Brunei.
The 13th ASG is taking place from May 29 to June 9 in the central city of Da Nang under the theme “Connect to Shine Bright”. The event has attracted about 1,300 athletes and coaches from 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The athletes will compete in 107 events of six sports namely swimming, athletics, badminton, basketball, Pencak Silat, and Vovinam. The opening ceremony of the Games will be held on June 1./.
