189 feared dead in Indonesian plane crash

Hanoi (VNA) – Indonesia’ssearch and rescue agency said on October 29 that there would be no survivorsfrom the Lion Air plane that crashed into the sea earlier the day.

Indonesian search and rescueofficial Bambang Suryo Aji told the press that he was not expecting anyone tohave survived, adding that some human remains had already been recovered.

In an official statement, therescue agency said the reason for the crash was still uncertain. Recoveryefforts are still underway.

The passenger jet run bylow-cost carrier Lion Air, carrying 189 people onboard, lost contact with theair traffic control just 13 minutes after takeoff. The jet, a Boeing 737 Max 8,was en route from Jakarta to Pangkalpinang in Bangka Belitung province off Sumatraisland.

Lion Air, which was foundedin 1999, is the biggest private airline in Indonesia, dominating more than 40percent of the market. –VNA
