18th Asia Maritime & Fisheries Universities Forum held in Hai Phong
The 18th Asia Maritime and Fisheries Universities Forum (AMFUF) is underway in the northern port city of Hai Phong, with a focus on promoting globalisation and cooperation in maritime training.

Hai Phong (VNA) – The 18th AsiaMaritime and Fisheries Universities Forum (AMFUF) is underway in the northernport city of Hai Phong, with a focus on promoting globalisation and cooperationin maritime training.
The event from November 18 to 20 features fivesessions, focusing on such issues as unmanned ships, the protection andsustainability of the maritime environment, port supply chains and operation,the quality of training for the fisheries sector, and research and educationalcooperation among AMFUF members.
According to AMFUF President Prof. Dr. DohDeog-Hee from the Maritime and Ocean University of the Republic of Korea,globalisation and multilateral cooperation are not unfamiliar to countries inAsia and the world, especially in the maritime and fisheries sectors. They arean inevitable trend that will not only form strong connectivity amongcontinents but also generate enormous economic and political benefits for eachnation.
Deputy Director of the Vietnam MaritimeAdministration Bui Thien Thu said amid the rapid globalisation and the digitalera, many issues closely related to the maritime sector have appeared, and notraining establishments, organisations or countries can singlehandedly dealwith those issues comprehensively, but they need cooperation from many parties.
Both Doh and Thu expressed their hope thatparticipants in the annual forum will help work out the best solutions tofoster the development of the maritime and fisheries sectors.
The AMFUF currently consists of 27 memberorganisations from nine Asian countries, including the Vietnam MaritimeUniversity.
On this occasion, the Vietnamese university andthe Maritime and Ocean University of the Republic of Korea signed an agreementon training cooperation./.
Human resources development has been seen as the key to developing the marine economy sustainably as well as managing, using and protecting maritime resources in Vietnam, as these sectors require a large and skilled labour force.
