Ha Tinh (VNA) - A 230kg bomb wassalvaged from the Hoi Tren riverbed in Thach Son Commune, Thach Ha District ofthe north central province of Ha Tinh, during construction of a sewage andcanal system. The bomb is 1.4m in length, 0.28m in diameter and weighs some230kg. Apprised of the information, Thach Ha Military Command and localauthorities coordinated with the 319 Corporation (under the Ministry ofDefence) to deactivate the bomb. Coded MK82, the general-purpose bomb was reportedly made in 1972and dropped in the area when the US Army escalated bombing of northern Vietnam. According to the Military Command of Thach Ha District, therelikely remains a large quantity of unexploded ordnance in the area.-VNA
More than 67 million USD has been poured into the central province of Quang Tri to help it clear bombs and mines left from the war over the past two decades.
