Hanoi (VNA)𝔉 – There are about 2.5million automobiles that need mechanical checks in the next six months,according to the Vietnam Register (VR).
The figure includes 800,000 with registration expiry and 1.7 million due for registration.
Currently, there are 241 registration centresacross the country with a maximum capacity of about 550,000 vehiclesper month.
According to the VR, it will take at least sixmonths to check all the above-mentioned vehicles, excluding those that need tobe re-checked if no more registration centres are allowed to resume theiroperations.
VR leaders said that congestion has beentaking place at 184 registration centres in 43 provinces and cities, especiallyin Bac Kan and Hoa Binh provinces which have only one centre but has beensuspended. They attributed the overload to the fact that the number of vehiclesdue to registration is on the rise amid a shortage of inspectors.

The Vietnam Register (VR) should build a more modern registration model and improve the quality of motor vehicle registration service, according to Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho.
Starting July 1 of this year, newly acquired vehicles might no longer be required a mandatory mechanic examination during registration for road use under a new policy being mulled.
Brand-new automobiles will be exempt from the first mechanical check under a revised circular on technical safety and environmental protection promulgated by the Ministry of Transport.
