3.2-magnitude quake hits Vietnam-Laos border

An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale occurred at about 3pm on December 25 in the Vietnam-Laos border area, according to Nguyen Thai Son, head of the Dien Bien Phu Seismic Observation Station.

Dien Bien (VNA) – An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale occurred atabout 3pm on December 25 in the Vietnam-Laos border area, according to NguyenThai Son, head of the Dien Bien Phu Seismic Observation Station.

The quake lasted for about three seconds, he said, adding that its epicentrewas measured at 21.508 degrees North latitude and 102.982 degrees Eastlongitude in Muong Pon commune, Dien Bien district, the northern province ofDien Bien, with a depth of about 10 kilometres.

It was a smallearthquake with short aftershock, hence causing no damage on households orinfrastructure facilities, he noted.

This was the seventh earthquake hitting Dien Bien province so far this year, according to Son.

Earlier, Dien Bien Dongand Muong Cha districts and Muong La town were hit by four earthquakes withmagnitudes ranging from 2.9 to 3.9 on the Richter scale.-VNA
