Hanoi (VNS/VNA)🦩 - Hanoi has approved a comprehensive plan for managing the city’s surveillance camera system, which includes the installation of 40,000 new cameras citywide.

The plan, signed by Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Ha Minh Hai, involves installing over 23,700 cameras to ensure security and order, nearly 16,250 cameras for traffic safety and approximately 230 cameras to serve defence purposes. The project is set to be implemented from 2025 until 2030, and aims to enhance the Traffic Police Department's Traffic Operation Centre and the Hanoi Traffic Police Division, under a directive from the Prime Minister.
The initiative supports management in various fields while monitoring and maintaining security and order across the city. Of the 40,000 new surveillance cameras to be installed, 12,000 will be PTZ cameras (pan-tilt-zoom cameras capable of directional control and zooming), while about 28,000 will be fixed cameras (with a static angle that cannot be adjusted after installation).
The funding for the installation will come from the State budget, mobilised capital sources and other lawful funding channels. The city encourages funding from organisations and individuals to deploy the surveillance camera system. Currently, Hanoi operates approximately 19,400 surveillance cameras, including nearly 4,000 PTZ cameras and 16,000 fixed cameras. Around 100 locations already have surveillance cameras installed at gateways and key routes for monitoring traffic and maintaining order in the city./.
