Hanoi (VNA) – To date, Vietnam hasnearly 1,900 establishments getting Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices(VietGAP) certificates with a total area of 81,500 hectares.
The figures represent respective rises of 297and 60,373 from 2017, according to the Department of Crop Production under theMinistry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Businesses applying VietGAP production modelshave reduced expenses on pesticides, fertiliser and varieties by an average 30million VND (1,290 USD) per hectare per year.
The expansion of crop areas meeting VietGAPstandards not only helps protect public health but also contributes to meetingthe goals of restructuring the agricultural sector towards sustainabledevelopment and increased export value.-VNA
Though the Vietnamese government and Ho Chi Minh City’s administration offer many incentives and have favourable policies to encourage businesses to invest in agriculture, they often remain on paper, heard a conference held in the city on August 27.
Since the start of this year, more than 10,000 ha of dragonfruit in the south central coastal province of Binh Thuan has been grown under VietGap standards, an increase of over 500 ha compared to 2017 and accounting for about 30 percent of the province’s dragonfruit growing area.
