Hanoi (VNA) - The ninthGlobal Conference of Young Parliamentarians, themed “The Role of Young Peoplein Promoting the Realisation of Sustainable Development Goals via DigitalTransformation and Innovations,” convened in Hanoi’s My Dinh National Convention Centre on September15 morning.
NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue attended the ceremony and delivered the openingspeech.
The conference is the largest multilateral diplomatic eventhosted by Vietnam this year, attracting the participation of more than 300young parliamentarians and delegates from over 70 member parliaments of the Inter-ParliamentaryUnion (IPU), representatives of international organisations, 124 members of theYoung NA Deputies’ Group of Vietnam, 20 outstanding young people of Vietnam,and 20 young deputies of provincial-level People’s Councils, along withrepresentatives of the friendship associations between Vietnam and othercountries, embassies, consulates, and foreign representative diplomaticagencies in Vietnam.
In his opening speech, Hue said that it is Vietnam’s honourto be chosen as the host of the conference. Following the success of the 132ndIPU Assembly in 2015, the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific ParliamentaryForum (APPF) in 2018, and the 41st General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-ParliamentaryAssembly (AIPA) in 2020, the hosting of this conference continues todemonstrate Vietnam’s active, proactive, and responsible participation in theIPU – the world’s biggest inter-parliamentary body, and shows the country’sattention to youth and global issues facing young people at present.
In his remarks, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pachecorecalled the success of the 132nd IPU Assembly in 2015 and notedthat at this conference, young lawmakers from around the world will focus onexchanging ideas regarding development strategies for nations, the world, andthe people in both the present and future.
Participating delegates also listened to speeches by President of the IPU Forumof Young Parliamentarians and member of the UK Parliament Dan Carden, and Chairmanof the Young NA Deputies’ Group of Vietnam Nguyen Anh Tuan.
Subsequently, they heard a keynote speech on theimplementation of SDGs and the role of digital transformation and innovation byVietnamese NA deputy Trinh Thi Tu Anh; and a recorded speech by TomasLamanauskas, Deputy Secretary-General of the International TelecommunicationUnion (ITU).
After the opening session, members of the Board of the Forumof Young Parliamentarians chaired the first thematic discussion on digitaltransformation.
In the afternoon of the same day, the second thematicdiscussion on innovation and startup took place under the chair of Peruvian MPand member of the Board Wilson Soto Palacios./.
The ongoing 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, hosted by the Vietnamese National Assembly, is an opportunity for young legislators to meet and share experiences to promote the implementation of the sustainable development goals, according to delegates to the event.

Young parliamentarians have an important role to play in pushing digital transformation towards sustainable economic development, heard the first session held in Hanoi on September 15 in the framework of the ongoing 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians.

The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Long spoke highly of the dynamic, positive, and comprehensive development of Vietnam – Russia relations in recent years. The Party chief underscored the need for the press to innovate relentlessly, evolve to keep pace with the country's development, transform into a truly professional, humanistic, and modern sector that serves the cause of the Party, the State, and the people on the path to national construction and development.
The UN Secretary-General praised Vietnam’s remarkable achievements in socio-economic development and international integration in recent years, noting that the country has emerged as a model in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting international peace and security, and engaging in key UN processes.
Nghia affirmed that this is a milestone of special significance, affirming and honouring the the Vietnamese revolutionary press’s glorious tradition of 100 years of serving the revolutionary cause of the Party, serving the Fatherland, and serving the people.

Under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh and the CPV, President Cuong said, the press has been a steadfast force on the ideological and cultural front, rallying the masses to pursue national aspirations.
NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man stressed the need to accelerate the application of artificial intelligence and smart teaching equipment, innovate teaching and assessment methods, and further improve the quality of formal education.
He also pledged that the NA will promote its ongoing supervision, making sure that every promise must lead to results, and every commitment must bring about real changes.
Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien welcomed the proposals put forward by the US side and reiterated Vietnam’s request for consideration of key areas of interest, including reciprocal tariff policies and access for Vietnamese key export products to the US market.
Deputy PM Le Thanh Long proposed countries promote shared values, including building trust, sincerity, and solidarity among nations and peoples; fostering cooperation spirit and responsible behaviour as well as upholding international law and the UN Charter; and placing people at the centre and as the goal, the key player, and the driving force of all policies.
