Action programme on sustainable development in Mekong Delta

Hanoi (VNA) –
Prime Minister NguyenXuan Phuc has approved an action programme implementing the Government’sresolution 120/NQ-CP on sustainable development of the Mekong Delta in responseto climate change.

The programme outlines six groups of tasks andsolutions, including the revision, improvement and supplementation of mechanismsand policies on land to serve large-scale, highly competitive and sustainableagricultural goods production; supporting the application and transfer ofscience technology in agro-production; and developing urban and rural residentialareas suitable with the conditions of each region.

The PM requested an appropriate agriculturalproduction structure focusing on aquaculture, fruit and rice along withdeveloping the green and low-carbon emission industry, renewable energy andforestation, as well as protecting coastal areas.

He suggested developing service – tourism into astrong economic sector by tapping the delta’s potential and natural advantagesas well as its cultural characteristics.

Investment projects on infrastructuredevelopment must have a reasonable roadmap and prioritise works which can boostthe whole region’s economy and society, as well as essential facilities forlocal people.

The PM also urged the prevention of erosion andsubsidence in coastal areas and river banks via reinforcing the sea dyke andirrigation systems, developing mangrove forests and building flood-proofhouses.-VNA

PM orders strengthened disaster prepa💮redness ahead of storm season

Under the directive, the PM instructed relevant agencies to regularly inspect, supervise and proactively implement disaster prevention, response and rescue measures in line with their assigned roles and mandates, ensuring readiness, avoiding passivity or delays, and maintaining operational continuity amid ongoing political and administrative restructuring at levels.

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
