- Party General Secretary and President To Lam chaired the fourth meeting of the steering committee tasked with reviewing theoretical and practical issues related to Vietnam's four-decade socialist-oriented Doi Moi (renewal) process in Hanoi on August 22.

The draft report covered the global, regional and domestic contexts that have shaped Vietnam's renewal process over the past 40 years. It explored the evolution of the Party's theoretical understanding, the milestones and challenges in the practical construction of socialism, and emerging issues and lessons learned. Additionally, it presented forecasts, proposals, viewpoints, and orientations for continuing comprehensive and concerted renewal in national construction and defence in the new era. Read full story

- National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man on August 22 called for the drastic and concerted implementation of resolutions on thematic supervision and questioning, while concluding a question-and-answer event as part of the NA Standing Committee’s ongoing 36th session.

Based on the results of this Q&A session, the NA Standing Committee will issue a resolution on the questioning, specifying concrete requirements for each issue, including clear deadlines for implementation and completion. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has sent out three messages to the Vietnamese community abroad, affirming the consistent and persistent policy of the Party and State that the community is an inseparable part and a resource of the Vietnamese nation.

Addressing a plenum session of the forum of OV intellectuals and experts, held within the framework of the 4th World Conference of Overseas Vietnamese (OV), in Hanoi on August 22, Chinh, who is also a Politburo member, said that the country pins expectation and trust on the OV community in the cause of construction and defence of the Fatherland. - Vietnam always attaches importance to preventing and settling challenges threatening peace early and from afar, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN), said at an open debate held by the UN Security Council (UNSC) on August 21.

The debate on “A New Agenda for Peace – Addressing Global, Regional and National Aspects of Conflict Prevention” under the “Peacebuilding and sustaining peace” agenda item was chaired by Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Timothy Musa Kabba. It is one of the signature events of Sierra Leone’s August Council presidency, attracting the participation of representatives of over 73 countries and relevant international organisation. - Thanks to the close cooperation between Vietnamese and Chinese travel firms and harmonised tourism promotion policies of the two countries, the number of Vietnamese and Chinese tourists travelling to the other country has completely recovered with strong growth potential.

According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT), in the first seven months of this year, 2.1 million Chinese visitors arrived in Vietnam, a surge of about 200% year on year, making China the second largest tourist market of Vietnam after the Republic of Korea. Read full story
