They are the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission, the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Nhan dan (People) newspaper, the Communist Review, the Su That (Truth) National Political Publishing House, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, the Vietnam Women’s Union Central Committee, the Vietnam Farmers’ Union Central Committee, and the Vietnam War Veterans’ Association. - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son has highlighted how Vietnam’s foreign policy reached new heights in 2024, creating favourable momentum for the country to enter a new era – that of the nation’s rise.

He told the press that despite global headwinds with instabilities, conflicts, and such emerging issues as climate change, natural disasters, food security and water security, Vietnam has maintained its position as a bright spot in the region regarding peace, stability and development. - A delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by its Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang paid a working visit to Cambodia from December 26-29.

During the trip, the delegation had working sessions with ministries, agencies and localities of Cambodia and visited people of Vietnamese origin in Phnom Penh capital and Preah Sihanouk province. Read full story

- The Ministry of Home Affairs has estimated that about 130 trillion VND (5.1 billion USD) is required to implement policies and benefits for officials, civil servants, public employees, and workers as part of the scheme to streamline the political system’s organisational apparatus.

The sum includes 111 trillion VND for policy payment for officials; 4 trillion VND for workers; 9 trillion VND for policies related to commune-level civil servants; 4 trillion VND for social insurance contributions; and 2 trillion VND for training and development costs, the ministry said in a draft decree it has submitted to the Government. - Leaders of the country’s four largest banks (the Big 4 group) BIDV, Vietcombank, VietinBank and Agribank have announced their preliminary positive business results for 2024.

BIDV’s chairman Phan Duc Tu estimates that by the end of this year, the bank will increase its total assets to more than 2.6 quadrillion VND, while its outstanding loans will reach nearly 2 quadrillion VND, up about 14% compared to last year. Read full story

- A total of 120 foreign suppliers have registered, declared, and paid taxes worth more than 8.68 trillion VND (341 million USD) through the General Department of Taxation (GDT)’s e-portal this year, up by 26% year-on-year and 74% compared to the annual target.

According to the GDT, the collection of foreign withholding tax from companies offering cross-border digital services fluctuated over the 2019 - 2021 period, with revenues recorded at close to 1.17 trillion VND in 2019, over 1.14 trillion VND in 2020, and more than 1.59 trillion VND in 2021. - Nuclear power is one of the priority areas where Canada and Vietnam can cooperate, and both sides have a good opportunity to share this technology and build nuclear reactors to provide their economies with clean, zero-emission energy, according to Jean Charest, former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada and former Premier of Québec.

In his interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency’s reporters in Canada, Charest asserted his country now possesses the unique CANDU (Canada Deuterium Uranium) technology, adding that this is the safest nuclear reactor and this technology has now evolved into a new generation called CANDU MONARK.
