- President To Lam has assumed the chairmanship of the Steering Committee tasked with reviewing theoretical and realistic issues related to Vietnam's four-decade-long socialist-oriented Doi Moi (renewal) process, under a decision of the Politburo.

The announcement came at the committee’s third meeting in Hanoi on June 12. The Politburo also named permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Luong Cuong as the committee’s standing deputy head. Read full story

- Vietnam has been elected as Vice-Chair of the General Assembly of the State Parties to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, bringing the total number of key UNESCO mechanisms in which Vietnam has joined to six.

This appointment, announced at the 10th session of the General Assembly in Paris on June 11, underscored Vietnam's rising international profile and the international community's trust in its ability to contribute to global institutions, said Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO Ha Kim Ngoc, who led the Vietnamese delegation to the session. - Vietnam always prioritises promoting social progress and equity, considering this as a goal, a task, and also a measure to boost sustainable development, Ambassador Mai Phan Dung told the ongoing 112th International Labour Conference in Geneva on June 11.

- Vietnam, along with other core group countries, brought the first-ever International Day of Play to life at the United Nations headquarters in New York on June 11.

The day (June 11), designated by UN General Assembly Resolution 78/268 on March 25, was initiated by Vietnam and the five other core group countries (including Bulgaria, El Salvador, Jamaica, Kenya, and Luxembourg) and co-sponsored by 138 nations. Read full story

- Senior Lieutenant Colonel Truong Anh Tuan, Deputy Commander of the Training Centre under the Ministry of National Defence’s Vietnam Peacekeeping Department has been recruited as the Military Affair Officer at the Office of Military Affairs, the UN’s Department of Peace Operations (DPO) in New York.

The State President’s decision to send Tuan to the new working position was handed over to him at a ceremony in Hanoi on June 12. Read full story

- A book titled "Vietnam Committee for Asian - African - Latin American Solidarity and Cooperation: Journeys, Friends" was launched at a seminar held in Hanoi on June 12.

Addressing the event, Nguyen The Ky, Chairman of the Central Council for the Theory and Criticism of Literature and the Arts and Chairman of the committee under the Vietnam Union of Friendship Associations (VUFO), said the Afro-Asian Peoples' Solidarity Organisation (AAPSO), established in 1957 and meeting legitimate aspirations of the oppressed and exploited peoples in Asia and Africa, receives widespread support from peoples around the world. - Vietnam’s export of fishery products is expected to reach 4.4 billion USD during January-June, a year-on-year increase of 6%, despite such formidable challenges as extreme weather conditions and competitive pressure regarding export prices, high input costs and shortage of materials, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

The country shipped an estimated 3.6 billion USD worth of fishery products abroad in the first five months of this year, up 6.5% from the same time last year. Read full story

- As one of the top three foreign investors in Laos, Vietnam has funneled nearly 5.5 billion USD into 240 projects in the country so far, contributing greatly to the local socio-economic development.

One typical example is the Nam Laos agricultural company in Attapeu and Sekong provinces, which is invested by private conglomerate Truong Hai Group (THACO). The company is building an agricultural complex on 27,000ha of land at the total cost of 750 million USD from 2024-2028. It expects to generate 25,000 jobs in 2028. Read full story

- Stronger cooperation between the aviation and tourism sectors are crucial to further promote tourism activities, which is expected to benefit both industries and the whole economy, according to experts.

This year, Vietnam tourism sector aims to serve 17-18 million international visitors and 110 million domestic travellers to earn about 840 trillion VND (33.01 billion USD). Read full story

- Vietnam’s auto sales in May increased 6% from the previous month to 25,794 units, as dealers rolled out stimulus measures to spur consumption, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA).

Of these, the sales of passenger cars rose 6% against April to reach 18,235 while commercial vehicle deliveries grew 7% to 7,292. In the meantime, those of special-purpose vehicles contracted 4% to 267 autos. Read full story./.
