– Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the expanded BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, on October 23 (local time).

Congratulating China on the great and historic achievements that the Chinese Party, State and people have obtained over the past 75 years of national construction, PM Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always sees developing ties with China a consistent policy, an objective requirement, a strategic choice, and a top priority in its foreign policy. – In a move to secure Vietnam's energy future, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan has underscored the urgent need to restore investment in and develop nuclear power, placing utmost importance on safety.

Nuclear power, once sidelined, is now back in the spotlight as the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) is reviewing practical needs based on National Power Development Plan VIII. Although initially proposed in 2009, the policy for nuclear power development was later put on hold. - The Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations (VDPO) under the Ministry of National Defence on October 24 coordinated with the French Defence Attaché Office in Vietnam to kick off a four-wheel-drive vehicle training course for more than 30 officers of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) who will participate in the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping operations as individuals in 2024.

The course, taking place from October 24 to November 7 with instructions given by experienced French military officers and EU experts, aims to equip the officers with knowledge and skills in driving, towing, maintaining and servicing four-wheel-drive off-road vehicles. Read full story

– A Vietnam-Laos trade fair was kicked off in Phonsavanh township in Xiengkhouang province of Laos on October 23 as part of activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the traditional day of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts in Laos (October 30, 1949 – 2024).

The event is also an activity to respond to the Visit Laos Year 2024, which promotes and introduces cultural and tourism products as well as agricultural products of Vietnam and Laos, helping to step up trade and socio-economic development in northern provinces of Laos and border localities of the two countries. – The Vietnam-Belgian business forum took place in Brussels on October 23, offering a chance for enterprises of the two countries to introduce their products and explore new cooperation opportunities.

– Nearly 200 experts and scientists from universities and research institutes across Vietnam, Japan, and other regional countries gather at an international scientific workshop that opened in the central city of Da Nang on October 24 to strategise Vietnam's ascension to a high-income status by 2045.

Co-hosted by the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) and Dong A University, the two-day event unveils key findings from the ERIA Report, a two-year research project titled "Vietnam 2045: Issues and Challenges for Development". Addressing the opening ceremony, Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association President Vu Duc Giang said the industry in Vietnam is enjoying significant opportunities in integration and development, noting that the sector’s export turnover is expected to hit 44 billion USD in 2024, up nearly 10% year-on-year./.
