All-round assessment of pandemic’s impacts needed: NA Chairman

Hanoi (VNA) – Chairmanof the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue has asked the Government, ministries,sectors, and localities to make all-round assessment of the COVID-19 pandemic’ssocio-economic impacts.

He made the request at agroup discussion of parliamentarians on October 21 morning, part of the ongoingsecond session of the 15th NA.

Legislators looked into theimplementation outcomes of the 2021 socio-economic development plan, the draftdevelopment plan for next year, the report on the COVID-19 prevention andcontrol, and the implementation of Resolution No. 30/2021/QH15 released at the 15th NA’sfirst session in July.

Other issues underconsideration included the implementation of this year’s State budget plan, theState budget estimates and the allocation plan for the central budget in 2022,along with the finance - State budget plan for 2022 - 2024.

Participants asked theGovernment and all-level administrations to evaluate the pandemic’s impacts,address shortcomings, steer clear of subjectivity and hastiness in the COVID-19prevention and control, and soon issue a general programme on socio-economicrecovery and development.

Echoing the views of some deputies,Chairman Hue demanded the Government, ministries, sectors, and localities makeall-round assessment of the pandemic’s socio-economic impacts, which will serveas the basis for building general strategies and plans for combating and safelyand flexibly adapting to COVID-19, as well as for issuing socio-economicpolicies that suit the reality.

He noted that all parliamentarians have reached high consensus on the need forchanging mindset and focusing on the safe, flexible, and effective adaptationto the pandemic.

The NA leader held that thegeneral programme on socio-economic recovery must take into account fiscal andmonetary policies so as to boost both economic recovery and development.

However, the legislature isunable to consider a financial package for the general programme on socio-economicrecovery right at this second session as preparations for this issue haven’tbeen completed yet, he said, adding that the NA Standing Committee is planningto seek permission for organising an irregular meeting in December to decide onthis matter./.
