Hanoi (VNA)
𝐆 - The American Mathematics Competitions (AMCs) are scheduled to be held in Vietnam on November 15, 2020 and February 4, 2021.

The exam will be organised by Edmicro Education Co., Ltd - the official representative of the American Mathematical Society with the sponsorship of the HOCMAI Education System.

The American Mathematics Competitions (AMCs) have had a long history. The AMCs were first launched by the American Mathematical Society in 1950. About 350,000 students from 6,000 schools in 34 countries around the world take part in the exam every year.

The ACMs are a series of examinations. AMC 8 is for students at grades 6, 7 and 8; AMC 10 for students at grades 9 and 10; and AMC 12 for students at grades 11 and 12.

The ACMs have been held in Vietnam since 2015.

The organising board said AMC 8 is set to take place on November 15, 2020, while AMC 10 and AMC 12 are scheduled to take place on February 4, 2021.

To join the competitions, students can choose to directly register at their schools or at the website .

AMC 8 consists of 25 multiple-choice questions, which are required to be finished in 40 minutes. Meanwhile, AMC 10 and AMC 12 are 25-question and 75-minute multiple choice exams.

𒐪 The questions are both in English and Vietnamese, and sent confidentially from the US to Vietnam. Candidates will use pencils, rulers, compass, dictionaries, and paper for doing the test.  Their answer sheets will be scanned and sent back to the US for grading.

With five levels, the AMCs are designed with the increasing difficulty to inspire talent and foster a love of mathematics among students from grades 6 to 12 through solving challenging problems.

After the contest, each candidate will receive a score report with result analysis, helping them clearly understand their qualification, strength and weakness.

Candidates' answer sheets will be assessed and approved by the American Mathematical Society.

The questions must be solved by applying mathematics to real life situations. These can help create an interest in mathematics and excitement about learning.

The most excellent students will be awarded with Mathematical Association of America’s Certificate of Merit, which has global value. The most important goal of the competition is to create opportunities for the candidates to get familiar with the mathematics formats that have their own depth in the general education programme and many questions relating to practical mathematical applications.

Top high scorers at AMC 8 will be invited to take part in AMC 10, while outstanding scorers in AMC 10 and AMC 12 will be invited to the American Invitational Mathematics Exams (AIME).

The AMC and AIME exams are open for all students around the world. Every year, among hundreds of thousands of candidates participating in AMC, some 10,000 are qualified to compete in the next round – AIME.

The challenges in the exam aim to help students practice mathematical skills and thinking, thus creating an interest in mathematics and excitement about learning.

The American Mathematical Society is dedicated to advancing research and connecting the diverse global mathematical community through its publications, meetings and conferences, MathSciNet, professional services, advocacy, and awareness programmes.

🔯 Vietnamese students have joined different international mathematic competitions with outstanding outcomes such as the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO), World Mathematics Invitational (WMI), International Mathematics Competition (IMC), and the Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary School (APMOPS). The IMO was the first international Olympiad that Vietnam participated in (1974)./.
