APEC SOM1 continues agenda with series of meetings

Khanh Hoa (VNA) - Theagenda of the first Senior Officials’ Meetings (SOM1) and related meetings ofthe Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum continued on February 27 inNha Trang city, south central Khanh Hoa province, with a series of events. Delegates from 21 APEC membereconomies continued attending the Economic Committee (EC) Meeting, the PolicyPartnership on Food Security (PPFS) Meeting, the Ocean and Fisheries WorkingGroups (OFWG) Meeting, the Committee on Trade and Investment (CTI) Meeting andthe Budget and Management Committee (BMC) – SOM Steering Committee on ECOTECH(SCE) Joint Meeting. Meanwhile, the Ad Hoc Steering Groupon the Internet Economy (AHSGIE) Meeting and the Ocean and Fisheries WorkingGroup (OFWG) – Policy Partnership on Food Security (PPFS) Joint Meeting begantheir first working day. Scheduledto take place from February 18 to March 3, the APEC SOM1 and relatedmeetings comprise 56 meetings, workshops and dialogues of 38 APEC committeesand working groups. Underthe theme of “Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future,” delegates areexpected to discuss and reach consensus onpriorities and their contents for the 2017 APEC Year on promoting sustainable,innovative and inclusive growth, regional economic connectivity,competitiveness of small-and medium-sized enterprises and micro-enterprisesin the digital era, food security, and climate change adaptation. The APEC forum includes 21 members - Australia,Brunei,Canada,Chile, China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia,Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore,Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam - which account for a combined 39 percent of the world’s population and make up 59percent of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP) and 48 percent of theglobal trade. The forum focuses on three cooperation pillars, namelytrade and investment liberalisation, business facilitation and economic –technological cooperation.-VNA
