APEC sub-committee discusses trade faciliation

HCM City(VNA) – The second meeting of the APEC Sub-Committee on Standards andConformance (SCSC) began in Ho Chi Minh City on August 23,focusing on debating trade facilitation, alignment with international standards and activeparticipation in international standardisation.

Delegates also discussed good regulatory practices,technical infrastructure development, food and product safety, and standardsand conformance education.

China presented areport on the project “Best practices sharing and technical capacity buildingfor measurement and verification standards of energy savings.”

Malaysia reported theproject on “APEC product safety incidents information sharing system,” whilethe US talked about facilitating trade in information and communicationstechnologies (ICT) projects through encouragement of electronic labeling.

Vietnam shared viewson best practices sharing of standards and conformity assessment implementationon smart cities of the APEC region.

Chile updated theproject on “Facilitating trade through the strengthening of food safetyemergency systems of APEC economies.”

The results of themeeting will be submitted to the APEC Committee on Trade and Investment (CTI).

The SCSC wasestablished in 1994 to help reduce the negative effects that differingstandards and conformance arrangements have on trade and investment flows inthe Asia-Pacific region. In this way, the SCSC assists the CTI in achieving APEC's trade and investment liberalisation andfacilitation agenda.-VNA
