- Party General Secretary and State President NguyenPhu Trong on September 28 asked the Party organisation of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) to become truly exemplary, pure, and strong.

Attending the VPA’s 11th Party Congress for the 2020-2025tenure, Trong, who is also Secretary of the Central MilitaryCommission, emphasised the need to be well aware of the special position androle of the army and its Party organisation.

The army is the one of the people, by the people, and for the people,and is directly and absolutely led by the Party, so the army is therefore absolutelyloyal to the Party and the nation and has a strong attachment to the people, henoted.

Stressing that discipline is a strength of the VPA, the leaderrequested that the Party organisation intensify inspection and supervision,tighten discipline, and improve personnel to meet requirements in nationbuilding and safeguarding in the new circumstances.

The entire army should increase the quality and efficiency of massmobilisation, take the initiative in protecting the Party’s ideologicalfoundation, and destroy conspiracies of “peaceful evolution”, “self-evolution”,and “self-transformation”, he suggested.

Trong also asked that more effort be made to promote the army’s corerole in building an all-people defence force and all-people defence posture inassociation with people’s security posture, improve the quality of defenceareas, and increase defence potential and national strength so as to promptlyand effectively respond to arising circumstances.

It is also important to bolster logistics and technical works anddevelop the defence industry to meet requirements in army building andsocio-economic development, he added./.
