ASEAN missions celebrate Family Day in New York

Representatives of the permanent missions of ASEAN countries to the United Nations (UN) celebrated the “ASEAN Family Day” in New York on June 22.

Ambassador U Kyaw Tin, head of theMyanmar mission, said that the event aimed to promote solidarity andmutual support among the missions.

That eventalso seeks to bring into play the bloc’s “One Vision, One Identity, OneCommunity” motto as it heads towards forging a common economic communityby 2015, he added.

Myanmar is the ASEAN Chair for 2014.

Several cultural activities including arts performances, games andsampling of traditional cuisines from all the member nations marked thecelebration. Vietnamese traditional dishes like nem (fried springrolls), xoi (steamed glutinous rice) and stir-fried vermicelli provedpopular among the visitors.
