ASEAN senior officials on environment wrap up meeting

ASEAN Senior Officials on the Environment (ASOEN) wrapped up their 25th meeting in the Lao capital city of Vientiane on August 28.
ASEAN Senior Officials on the Environment (ASOEN) wrapped up their 25thmeeting in the Lao capital city of Vientiane on August 28.

The three-day event allowed the officials to review ASEAN environmentministerial meetings in the past year and listen to proposals of ASOENworking groups on climate change, marine and coastal environment,education on environment and natural conservation and bio-diversity.

They were reported on the management of water sources and ASEANcooperation in environmental technology and sustainable consumption andproduction.

They urged Cambodia and Indonesiato speed up the ratification of an agreement on the establishment ofthe ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity.

Theofficials listened to the results of cooperation between the group andits dialogue partners like Australia, Canada, China, the European Union,India, Russia and the US.

Apart from that, they discussed issues in regards to the ASEAN Socio-Culture Community and the post-2015 ASEAN Community.

The meeting’s outcomes will be submitted to the 15th informal meetingof ASEAN environment ministers scheduled for October 27-31.-VNA

Thai Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Vuttikrai Leewiraphan Thailand's formal proposal will be substantial enough for the US to consider further detailed negotiations. He hoped for a tariff rate not exceeding 10% and suggested that the US might extend the negotiation period if an agreement is not reached by the July 8 deadline.
