ASEM conference on inclusive growth to attract 180 delegates

As many as 180 delegates from 53 Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) member countries, as well as representatives from international and regional organisations will attend an ASEM conference on promoting inclusive socio-economic growth in Asia and Europe on May 16-17 in Nha Trang city, the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa.

Khanh Hoa (VNA) – As many as 180 delegates from 53Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) member countries, as well as representatives from internationaland regional organisations will attend an ASEM conference on promotinginclusive socio-economic growth in Asia and Europe on May 16-17 in Nha Trangcity, the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa.

The conference is an initiative of Vietnam that was approvedduring the 12th ASEM Summit in Brussels in October 2018.

It will be co-organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs; the Ministry of Planningand Investment; and the People’s Committee of Khanh Hoa.

At a press conference on May 15, Le Thi Hong Van, ViceDirector of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation under theMinistry of Foreign Affairs, said that sustainable, inclusive and creativedevelopment is now prioritised by countries as global challenges are becoming moreserious. It is also important in relation to the Fourth Industrial Revolution,which has opened up growth opportunities, but also widened the gap indevelopment, income and employment.

Van said that the conference shows the pioneering role ofthe ASEM, as well as its contributions to international efforts in realisingcommitments on promoting socio-economic sustainable and inclusive growth, thuseffectively implementing the UN Agenda 2030.

Through the event, Vietnam hopes to join global attempts andASEM cooperation, while creating a chance to foster the country’s bilateralpartnership with ASEM member countries, she added.

Participants will share experience and discuss a wide rangeof issues, including the reality of global growth in the 21st century,Asia and Europe’s experience in inclusive development, the role and engagementof relevant parties in promoting inclusive socio-economic development, and thestrengthening of Asia-Europe cooperation in inclusive socio-economic growth. –VNA
