Asian cities look towards sustainable future

Over 130 domestic and foreign delegates were brought together at a workshop held in the central city of Hue on November 29-30 to seek solutions to the sustainable future of Asian cities.
Over 130 domestic and foreign delegates were brought together at aworkshop held in the central city of Hue on November 29-30 to seeksolutions to the sustainable future of Asian cities.

Organised by the Regional Network of Local Authorities for theManagement of Human Settlements (CityNet), the event offered a goodchance for participants to discuss a range of topics such as “futurecities”, “green cities in Asia”, “smart urban traffic”.

Delegates also introduced the best models to buildenvironmentally-friendly cities at both regional and global scales, andcalled for multilateral cooperation in Asia-Pacific.

Through theevent, CityNet defined opportunities and challenges facing its membersin the new development trend, thus seeking feasible orientations for theprosperity of the network as well as the sustainable development ofAsian cities.

Established in 1987, CityNet is home to 122members, including 81 municipal authorities and 41 non-governmentalorganisations. Vietnam has five CitiNet members, namely Hanoi, HoChi Minh City, Hue, Da Nang and Hai Phong.

Annually, the organisation holds about 25 events, including workshopsand training programmes, to address urgent issues related to urbandevelopment and planning, environmental protection and climate changeadaptation.-VNA
