Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam-BelarusFriendship Association convened its fourth national congress (2019-2024 tenure)in Hanoi on September 25.
The congress elected a 27-member executive board for the new tenure, withNguyen Tuan Phong, deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission forExternal Relations, as President.
Over the past years, the association organised various meetings andpeople-to-people exchanges, contributing to promoting the relationship betweenVietnam and Belarus.
It supported many Belarus delegations which came to Vietnam to seek cooperationopportunities, while maintaining its close relations with the Belarus-VietnamFriendship Association.
Delegates shared their views that the association should renew and improve theefficiency of its operation in the new term in order to reap practical resultsin people-to-people diplomacy.
Addressing the congress, Nguyen Phuong Nga, President of the Vietnam Union ofFriendship Organisations, praised achievements recorded by the association overthe past time.
She highlighted the traditional friendship and long-term, multi-facetedcooperation between Vietnam and Belarus, and urged the association to consolidatecooperation with its partners, especially the Belarus-Vietnam FriendshipAssociation.
Peace and friendship activities should be combined with cooperation in suchareas as new energy, mechanical manufacturing and the processing of agro-forestryproducts.
The association can encourage youths to explore the land and people of therespective countries through schools and community-based programmes, shesuggested.
Nga urged the association to expand its operation network in order to bringinto full play its role as a bridge between organisations, individuals andbusinesses of the two countries./.
