Tokyo (VNA) – The congress of the Association of Vietnamese in Japan took place atthe Embassy of Vietnam in Tokyo on May 28, attracting representatives fromVietnamese societies in the host country, from students to businessmen.
During theevent, participants recommended the association to ramp up practical activitiesfor the benefits of Vietnamese people in Japan and increase support for newcomersfrom Vietnam, particularly students.
A websiteshould be developed to help Vietnamese update information and expand theirnetwork across Japan.
Speaking atthe congress, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Quoc Cuong spoke highly ofthe rapid development of the Vietnamese community here, contributing to the twocountries’ friendship and economic growth.
Cuongaffirmed his respect to the independent operation of the Association of Vietnamesein Japan, saying he is willing to support its community-based activities.
Thecongress elected Tran Ngoc Phuc as the association’s new president while NguyenBinh Khiem as the secretary general.
It wasestimated that Japan hosted nearly 200,000 Vietnamese people by the end of2016, becoming the fourth largest foreigner community in the country, afterChina, the Republic of Korea, and the Philippines.

Multiple activities within the ongoing “Vietnam Festa” in Japan’s Kanagawa prefecture are expected to help Japanese people understand more about the land and people of Vietnam.
Vietnamese communities abroad recently organised activities to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam and national reunification (April 30) and the 131st anniversary of May Day (May 1).
