Hanoi (VNA) 𒆙– The success of the August Revolution has a great historical significance, proving the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)'s creative leadership and the strength of the national great solidarity.

Professor, Dr. Pham Hong Tung, Director of the Institute of Vietnamese Studies and Development Science under the Vietnam National University – Hanoi, affirmed this in a recent interview with the Vietnam News Agency. On August 16, 1945, the National Congress was held and it issued a resolution on wresting back the administration in the whole country. The August Revolution broke out with huge political demonstrations of people nationwide under the support of the armed forces, combined with the diplomatic struggle. Millions of Vietnamese people used their strength to liberate themselves. They rose up in the revolution, throwing off the yoke of colonialism and feudalism to seize power. In only two weeks from August 14-28, people across the country successfully finished the revolution.
On September 2 in the Ba Dinh Square of Hanoi, President Ho Chi Minh delivered the Declaration of Independence to establish the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the first administration of the farmer and worker class in Southeast Asia. The success of the revolution in 1945 was the first victory of Vietnam since the country was led by the CPV. It ended foreign domination over the country, bringing independence and freedom to the Vietnamese people. Prof. Tung underlined the democratic significance of the revolution, saying that it was part of the mankind’s struggle against fascism.

He attributed the revolution’s victory to the tradition of patriotism of Vietnamese people, saying that it has been nurtured through centuries of struggles to build and defend the nation. Patriotism has been aroused and promoted by the CPV in the process of leading the revolution, Tung noted. The whole victory of the revolution was the outcome of the great national solidarity on the back of worker-peasant alliance under the Party leadership, he stressed.

Tung said that the patriotic spirit and correct guideline of the Party formed the great national solidarity, which has been increasingly expanded and consolidated. Another factor of the success of the revolution was the diplomatic art of cadres of the Party, the Viet Minh Front, and the great national unity bloc, he added.

August Revolution on par with great revolutions worldwide

From mid-August 1945 until the Declaration of Independence read on September 2, 1945, the revolutionary forces led by the Party, President Ho Chi Minh and the Viet Minh Front were supported by great international friends, Tung said. With a long-term vision, since 1942, President Ho Chi Minh had devoted all his heart and energy to the diplomatic struggle at the world level. That year, he went to China alone to find a way to expand the diplomatic relations of the Viet Minh Front in the international arena. Later, international friends conducted many studies on the August Revolution. Genuine researchers all acknowledged that this is a typical revolution in the world.
According to Norwegian historian S. Tonnesson, the revolution was comparable in size to the Russian October Revolution, the French Revolution in 1789, and China's Xinhai Revolution in 1911, and was the most important political event in Southeast Asia. Western prominent historians also acknowledge the great value of the revolution, Prof. Tung said. /.
